As someone who feels the cold, I struggle with keeping warm enough in winter.
Here are my top tips for keeping yourself toasty during the colder months.
1. Buy A Hot Water Bottle
A hot water bottle is an easy and cost-effective way to keep yourself warm in winter.
Hot water bottles can be purchased for as little as £5 and will keep you warm whether you’re sitting at your desk or chilling on the sofa in the evening.

It’s worth noting that hot water bottles do have an expiry date, so you might want to check the neck on yours to ensure that it is still safe to use.
2. Eliminate Draughts In Your Home
Draughts in your home can make it feel chilly and uninviting, as well as meaning your heating has to work harder to each room warm.
Draughts are most common around doors and windows and are easy to eliminate using draught tape and brush draught excluders.
You can also use caulk to eliminate draughts around skirting boards and
3. Invest In A Warm Winter Coat
For most of the year, I tend to wear a light raincoat, as with the typical British weather, it’s always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to rain! Especially with two hour long school runs each day.
And while I usually top this up with a hat, scarf and gloves in the winter, this year I decided it was time for something a bit warmer.
One of the main areas my current coat isn’t quite cutting is the length, and it is just not quite warm enough when temperatures reach the freezing point.
I recently invested in a new coat from Lighthouse Clothing, which ticks all the boxes. It’s longer so my thighs don’t get cold and it’s much warmer because it’s fleece-lined.

It’s also waterproof which is a bonus – I was originally toying with the idea of getting a Parker-style coat but I think this lovely raincoat suits my needs much better since I seemed to get soaked on the school run at least once a week!
4. Keep Your Feet Warm
Having cold feet can make the rest of your body feel cold too.
In fact, I can’t sleep if my feet are cold and often have to get up and make myself a hot water bottle to warm them up as I hate wearing socks in bed.
During the winter months, I often wear two pairs of socks and keep and spare pair of slippers in my bag for when I visit other people’s houses.
Thermal socks are a great choice if you struggle with cold feet at night and welly socks are great for keeping your toes warm when dog walking or during other outdoor pursuits.
5. Use A Heated Blanket
I invested in a heated blanket a couple of years ago and it’s still going strong.
I mainly use it on the days I’m at my desk working as I get cold while sitting still.
A heated blanket makes a perfect gift for an elderly relative who might be worried about the cost of having their heating switched on

Plus, heated blankets have a built-in safety mechanism which means the blanket switches off after a few hours, so there’s nothing to worry about if you fall asleep while using it.
6. Make Your Bedroom Warmer
There;s nothing worse than trying to sleep in a cold bedroom.
Here are a few things you can try to keep your bedroom warmer during the chilly winter nights.
Keep The Curtains Closed – Keeping the curtains shut not only helps your bedroom to retain heat but also blocks cold air from circulating.
Add A Cosy Rug – Adding a rug means you don’t have to step straight out onto a cold floor first thing in the morning.
Use An Electric Blanket – While there is a small initial cost, an electric blanket is a great example of how sometimes it can be cheaper to heat just the person rather than the whole room or house.

7. Always Layer Up
When it comes to keeping warm in winter, one of the best things you can do is add layers. This could be by layering clothing when you head out in the cold, or adding extra layers of blankets to your bed.
I hope these tips help you keep warm and toasty this winter!
