Does your child love Lego? It might be worth finding out whether your local library has a Lego club!
Here are some of the reasons we love ours!
As a parent, I often worry that I’m not doing enough with my kids. One area I feel especially guilty about is clubs.
While my daughter has been able to attend some clubs at her school, these only run for one half-term at a time, so it’s not something she gets to do year-round.
Car sharing with my husbands means things like a swimming club would be close to an hour’s walk away and public transport here is limited. Plus, it’s not something I want to do after a 45-minute school run in the opposite directions, with a toddler in tow – especially in winter!
This is why I’m really glad we found the Lego club at our local library. It ticks all the boxes in terms of being able to get there easily, low cost and low commitment, as we as a family are pretty busy a lot of the time!
I would recommend looking out for something like this in your local area. My daughter loves the Lego club and enjoys it (despite having a huge box of Lego at home!).

5 Reasons I Love Our Local Library Lego Club
1. Lego Club Is Free
Children’s clubs can be expensive and as parents, I’m sure we all know the impact that the cost of living crisis is having on our finances.
Finding children’s clubs and activities that are low-cost or even free can be quite tricky.
That’s why I love that our local Lego Club is completely free to access.
It means children from all backgrounds can attend and enjoy playing with Lego together with no worries about the cost, paying upfront or feeling out of pocket if we miss a week.

2. It’s Low Commitment
The Lego club we attend, it’s open every other week.
This works perfectly for our family as we often visit family and friends at the weekend as well as having days out.
There is also no need to book, which means if our plans change we’re not letting anyone down and as it’s free, we don’t lose any money either.
With our Lego club parents are expected to stay with the children, but I see this as a great opportunity for some one-on-one with my daughter away from her demanding toddler brother.
3. My Daughter Meets Other Children
There are children of all ages at Lego club and the library even puts out some duplo to accommodate younger children.
It’s been great for my daughter to meet other children outside of her school setting and gradually start to make Lego club friends.
4. Lego Club Encourages Creativity
Lego Club has a different theme each week, which inspires the children while still being quite open-ended.
Recent themes have included Weather, Pets, Machines, Cakes and Monsters. You can see her dream pet – a unicorn – below.
However, the children can pretty much make anything they like. Each child is given a bowl and then can help themselves to lego from colour-coded boxes to make their creations.
They can go back as many times as they like to get more pieces. Some of the children’s creations are really amazing and I love taking a look at them all at the end of the session.
5. All Childrens Lego Gets Displayed In The Library
As the children finish their Lego creations, the library staff put each one on display around the children’s area for everyone to look at when they visit the library over the next two weeks until the next Lego club.
I think this is such a lovely idea and knowing their creation is good enough to be displayed is a great self-esteem booster for the children.
