One thing we always do at weekends in our household is have a nice ‘treat’ breakfast.
We usually mix it up between homemade pancakes, bacon or sausage sandwiches, pastries from a local bakery or sometimes even a homemade sausage and egg McMuffin.
It makes a nice change from the standard cereal, toast, yoghurt combo we usually have on school mornings, and it’s nice to have breakfast together as a family – something we don’t do during the week, as my husband leaves for work so early.
So, when I was offered these Toast’em Pop-Ups to try, I jumped at the chance, thinking they would make the perfect addition to our fun weekend breakfast tradition.
Personally, I love strawberry jam, so I opted for the strawberry flavour for myself.
For everyone else in the family, I didn’t think I could go too far wrong with Frosted Chocolate Fudge, although I think my husband was a little bit disappointed I hadn’t chosen the Cookies & Creme flavour.
I cooked the Pop-Ups in the toaster, just using the standard setting we use for toast, which is number three (but do keep in mind that appliances vary).
As you can see from the picture, I like mine with a hint of colour on the icing.
The Toast’em Pop-Ups were delicious with a good ratio of both filling and icing to pastry. We would choose them again for a weekend breakfast.
Plus, I think they make a nice occasional mid-week after-school snack too. You can see my two-year-old enjoying the Frosted Chocolate Fudge flavour below! He now keeps asking for the ‘thing with sprinkles’.
Toast’em Pop-Ups are made in the USA but are widely available here in the UK.
And please don’t get mad at me for mentioning the C word in July, but I do think they make a great addition to an American treat hamper Christmas gift. I even think they’d make a great stocking filler too!
